Harajuku queen of kawaii (cute) Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and idol act Momoiro Clover Z will not be performing. Some surprising names were left off of this year’s “Kohaku” roster. NHK said, however, that she will still perform as part of a special intermission show. Meanwhile, Sachiko Kobayashi, a “Kohaku” favorite who is known for her elaborate costumes, will not be taking part in the actual competition. In fact, enka singer Shinichi Mori is slated to take part this year for his 48th time.
While “Kohaku Uta Gassen” showcases the year’s most popular music acts, many viewers are more interested in the enka artists. There will also be a special performance by classic rock act X Japan, who is set to release a new album in March.
